The Club (PC) Winner

theclub.jpgThe other day I asked you guys to come up with a name for a super secret death club in order to win a PC copy of Sega's The Club, released this week. There were some awesome entries, but since this is a contest where the winner is chosen at random, the winner is Nick! His super secret death club is named "T34m 1337 G33k". Bonus points for lack of letters I guess!

Congratulations to Nick! Your game will soon be in the mail.

Win a copy of The Club for PC

theclub.jpgSega and Bizarre Creations' brand new shooter The Club dropped this week, and we have a copy of the Games for Windows version to give away. If you haven't seen the demo yet, The Club is a neat mix of third person shooter and SHMUP, your objective being to kill as many people in a row as possible to rack up score multipliers. Sound like something awesome?

Well then, all you have to do to win a copy is to post in the comments what you'd name your own super secret death club. You know, besides "The Club".

Winners will be chosen at random on Friday.

Update: Screw Shrek Caption Contest - Win 2 XBLA Games

We've got 5 codes for both Screwjumper and Shrek n' Roll for the Xbox Live Arcade, and I am just itching to give them away. I doubt there is any sort of salve in existence that I can use, so the best way I can come up with to sate my scratchy needs is to hold a contest. (I apologize for any disturbing imagery that might have caused. Please direct all complaints to Qais.) The perfect title for this contest? Screw Shrek. That's right, I came up with that all by myself.

The rules are simple. All you have to do is comment on this post with a funny caption to this image (why not use this opportunity to register for an account?). The top 5 funniest captions will receive codes for both games.

Contest ends Dec. 7. Go on, be funny and win some free stuff!

UPDATE: comment registration works now! Comment away!

Podcastiversary Contest!

podcasttriviacontest.jpg

It's our two year anniversary, harkening back to the days of yore when we first started attaching mp3 files to an rss feed. Ahh, how time flies. To best celebrate our persistence on the Internets, we are having a HUGE CONTEST to giveaway a metric ass-load of the stuff that we picked up at PAX! The contest rules are simple: whoever can answer the most trivia questions about The Weekly Geek wins. Some of these questions are common knowledge about the show, and some require extensive research. Some may even require listening to old shows. Good thing they are so darned entertaining!

All you have to do is send an email to contest@weeklygeekshow.com with your answers (some are fill in the blank)! Questions are after the jump. You have until September 16th to enter. Get to it!

In case of a tie... well we'll have some sort of geek off.

E for All and Threadless announce contest

18_e-for-all.jpgE for All, the little games con that could, is pairing up with Threadless to offer you prizes! What prizes might you ask and what horrific contortions must you endure in order to win the veritable mountain of stuff they're sure to send you?

E for All wants your creative juices people, and so they've created a contest in which you, the creative little gaming junkie that you are, design a shirt inspired by E for All's theme "Power Up and Play". In return for your creative expectorations E for All will fly you and a friend to the event, provide you with lodging, $2000, a Wii, and for some odd reason a $400 air fair gift card.

The contest is obviously a ploy to garner attention to an event that is being soundly bashed on all sides, with a whole host of publishers either backing out of the expo or simply choosing not to attend. It would appear that the con created for the people is being ignored by the folks that bring the people their oft sought after alternate reality fix. Even so, kudos to E for All for getting it's participants involved in the building of an event which will hopefully become what everyone wishes E3 would be.

Get cracking chilluns, the contest runs from September 1 to the 30th and you enter here.

Microsoft Sponsoring XBL TV Pilot Contest

xboxliveoriginals.jpg

In the realm of completely awesome things Microsoft is doing these days (except Vista cuz it sux lol), the big M is sponsoring a television pilot contest. From the press release:

Microsoft Corp. and the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) today announced the Xbox LIVE® Originals contest, granting aspiring television producers the opportunity to create a pilot that could be chosen for the first original series developed specifically for the Xbox LIVE online gaming and entertainment network. Microsoft will award the winning entrant a $100,000 budget and an opportunity for a six-episode commitment to air the television series on Xbox LIVE, the largest social network in the living room. The pilot episode of the winning series is scheduled to debut this fall at the third annual NYTVF, the industry’s first showcase for independent television, before being featured exclusively on Xbox LIVE, home to a community of more than 6 million people worldwide. This marks the first time that user-created entertainment content will be available worldwide for download exclusively on Xbox LIVE.

It's in line with what we have all been saying these companies like Nintendo and Microsoft should be doing with their online networks - open them up for independent content. While I am sure they are going to have to wade through some poop, I would love to see what people come up with and what they finally choose. Will they pick a cheesy sitcom? Tetris Machinima? A Jackass-style show with IN GAME STUNTS? Don't touch that dial, tune in to this station to find out.

THE WORST CONTEST IN THE HISTORY OF TIME: WIN SOMETHING BROKEN

You read that right, I'm giving away the worst prize ever. A broken Nintendo WiFi Dongle.

Heh, dongle.

So here's the skinny: We had a Nintendo WiFi Dongle, it broke, we replaced it with a new one, and then I felt like popping the old one open to see what was inside. As it turns out, there were electronics on the inside.

Looking closer at it, I can tell exactly where the problem is. There's a little connector that came loose and isn't connected any more. I'm sure it's completely fixable with a little soldering or something.

But I have neither the resources nor the motivation to fix this myself. So what to do with it? Why, unload it on one of you, of course!

That's right, you can win your very own broken Nintendo WiFi Dongle. Use it with your broken DS or Wii, I guess. Or fix it, I don't care. I just don't want it any more.

In order to win this broken thing, just send me an email and do something to convince me to spend the money on a postage stamp, put this thing in an envelope, and drop it in the mail. Maybe I'll find some other crap lying around my apartment and put it in the envolope too. I'll pick an arbitrary date sometime in the future to end the contest.

Good luck.

Geeky Desk Contest Winner

deskwinner.jpg

Earlier this month we announced a contest for whoever had the geekiest desk filled with toys, gadgets and other junk. A winner has been decided, and the gold medal/crown/trophy goes to Charlie! He narrowly beat out Sitnalta (who had a freakin' Tesla coil) due to his massive amount of toys, TV tuned to Firefly, copy of Kitchen Confidential and authentic movie memorabilia. Congratulations! For winning this contest, Charlie recieves various adulation for being an obsessive-compulsive pack-rat, a hand-made Weekly Geek statue, a limited edition hardcover copy of the first Penny Arcade collection, a Wii Play gold medal, a Microsoft snowboarding hat, Adobe board wax, a Zelda T-Shirt and whatever miscellaneous swag I can jam into a small cardboard box.

Check out the forum for all the entries. Competition was tight!

Animal Crossing Contest Winners!

Well, the contest is over and the winners need to be announced. I think I am just the jerk to do it. The contest was to draw me Tom Nook. I didn't care how, I didn't care what he was doing. Tom Nook had to be involved somehow. We had a lot of entries, but here are the top three:

Third Place: Killa Charlie (Probably not his real name)
nook_killa.jpg
Violent while still being amusing. Three thumbs up. You get a t-shirt.

Second Place: Charles Vestal
nook_cvc1.jpg
nook_cvc2.jpg
Chuck actually made us two images of Tom Nook. They were incredible and made me pee my pants and cry. Although not in that order, therefore he didn't win. You also get a t-shirt.

WINNAR: Brittany Zumwalt!!!!!111
nook_brit.jpg
Brittany showed us how she could meld postmodern art nouveau and bauhaus with.... ahhhh.... she made a cool watercolor portrait of Tom Nook. That's all that matters. Congrats, you not only get a t-shirt like the two losers but you get a sealed copy of Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS.

Sci-Fi and Skateboarding! WIN SOMETHING!

Hey there all you Geekkateers!

This is your friendly reminder that Sci-Fi friday returns with all new episodes tonight on the Sci-Fi Channel. That means new Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica. If you're a sci-fi nut, this is the best three-hour block of it on TV.

Also, if you've been listening to the show, you know that our very good friends at Activision sent us a few games to review. And right now, we're going to give one of them away!

So here's how you can win a copy of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland for the Xbox:

I've been trying to come up with an interesting way to give this sucker away. We're gonna play a little game of six degrees of separation covering the two subjects in this blog post. Starting as of the time and date of this blog post, until 12 noon PST on Sunday, January 8, I want you to send me your best chain from professional skater extraordinaire Tony Hawk to Michael Shanks, star of Stargate SG-1.

The winner will be determined thusly:

The shortest amount of steps in the chain wins.
In case of multiple chains having the same amount of steps, the one I find most interesting will win.
In case of the same shortest and most interesting chain being submitted from multiple people, the one that hits my email inbox first is the winner.

The winner will be announced on the January 9 edition of The Weekly Geek podcast, posted on this here website, and notified via e-mail.

Send all entries to me, The Geek, at thegeek@weeklygeekshow.com
Only one entry per email address, please.

Good luck!
