It's no big secret that we here at The Weekly Geek love Destructoid. Not only have we co-opted two of their editors for our own personal use, I'm listed not once but TWICE on the Destructoid about page. Amazing! Heck, I'd even say that The Weekly Geek is unofficially part of the Destructoid network just based on the amount of time we all spend together at conventions and the like. It's Destructoid's 2 year anniversary (and site creator/leader Niero's birthday) and in honor of this joyous occasion Niero has decided to unearth something so personal and nostalgic it impressed even me. Niero, like many 10 year olds back in "the day" was a huge Nintendo nerd. He kept this notebook filled with his own Nintendo club secrets and has scanned in each and every page for your perusal. I have to say, Niero, not only are you pretty much the nicest guy I know in my adult life, I am pretty sure we would have been best friends in childhood had we known each other. My friends and I had our own Nintendo club where we would hold tournaments, which basically just were us playing video games all day without really paying attention to scores. We also drew Mega Man bosses and decorated envelopes for Nintendo Power letters. Man we would have had some times let me tell you what.
Here's to a bunch more years of awesome Destructoid goodness.
CTZ over at Destructoid interviewed me last week for his Art Attack Friday feature, and it has gone live today! He managed to boil down my life's work into one teensy html page on the internets. Sniffle. Check it out and see some art that I done did.
I got the opportunity to play Rock Band early Saturday morning during PAX, before the unwashed non-media masses were sent in to the show floor. Here is some video of the auspicious occasion. Playing Radiohead's Creep are Mr. Destructoid on drums, Flynn DeMarco on guitar, Colette Bennett on vocals, and Chris "I am a spooky Splicer" Furniss on bass. Enjoy.
Have a burning question you'd like answered? A question like... what is that burning sensation? Well mosey on over to Destructoid today, we've got a brand new cross promotional weekly feature called "Ask The Weekly Geek" just for you. This week's subject is a Weekly Geek standard rant, but I am sure you'll get a kick out of it. Post your own question and maybe I will rant about it next week!
This is frikkin' hilarious. A man by the name of Jhidekim goes to E3 and interviews people about how to interview people. His subtle, awkward delivery is equal parts precious and brilliant.

(note: Chris' mic cuts out around 21 minutes, and will be quiet for the rest of the program. Buy him some more RAM). On this week's podcast, Chris, The Geek, Colette and special guest Aaron Linde from Destructoid talk about the glorious week that was E3. Well, not so glorious for big game announcements, but certainly glorious for exclusive parties, free drinks, good food and friends. They discuss how the Wii zapper sucks, they ask if RPGs need to be innovative, and then Rock Band is pitted against Guitar Hero. Also Bill and Ted are discussed in length. Wow, this year's E3 is completely different from past years. The low key, toned down atmosphere makes it so much easier to cover all the games you want to play, at the expense of the over the top glitz and free swag. That's right, no swag! NO FREE STUFF! WTF! Well, that's not entirely true. I got a hat. So far, I have had an incredible time. I could have left yesterday and been completely satisfied. Just being able to meet so many industry people that I admire has been great. That's one thing this new E3 is supposed to foster as well: networking, meeting people and making those connections. The guys from Destructoid are pretty darn great, I must say, and they are super kind for putting me up and carting my lame ass around.
Hit the jump for my impressions of day one of this new wacky E3.

The Geek, Chris and Colette are on location this week, preparing for E3! Subjects discussed include the Transformers movie, how we need an Alf movie, Rock Paper Scissors championships, crazy craigslist ads, and of course, E3 fun times. Download the podcast now or subscribe! DO IT!!!!! Alf commands you.
E3 hasn't even begun yet, but fun times have already been had. After I got off the plane this morning I met up with a bunch of people from Destructoid, including Colette (who is also technically from The Weekly Geek), Niero, Ron Workman, Chad Concelmo and William Haley. I just have to state right now how much I fucking Love (yes, with a capital L) the Destructoid guys. There's a reason they have such a great community: because they are all so damned amazing. We went to the beach, had some food, walked around Santa Monica for a bit, ran into Major Nelson at a toy store (!) and ended up at a super exclusive industry party, whos guests included Adam Sessler and N'Gai Croal, the latter of which actually expressed interest in being on the podcast sometime.
If the rest of the week ends up like tonight, it's going to be one hell of a show. Stay tuned to this space. I will also be uploading photos (probably daily) to this flickr set. Enjoy!
That's right, Geekateers, I have joined the ranks of the illustrious PODTOID, the Destructoid.com video game podcast. The transition has been in the works for a bit as they needed some help offloading their production time, and in return for helping them record and produce and post their podcast, I get to be a regular guest. How will this affect The Weekly Geek? Not a lot. Podtoid tends to discuss subjects relative to the Dtoid community, covering the top stories on the site for the week, and surprisingly there is little overlap between the podcasts. So don't despair!
Download the newest Podtoid, Podtoid 20-ish: The Repoddening from the Podtoid site now! It turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself.

On this week's podcast, The Geek and Chris "Frodo" Furniss are joined by Colette Bennett from DESTRUCTOID as they discuss games being blamed for violence, Extreme Home Makeover, Mortal Kombat going serious, the long dialog of Okami and Super Paper Mario, and Harry Potter. Also included is a discussion about whether or not you should die in a well-designed game. SUPER BONUS ROUND: voicemail! Download the podcast here or subscribe. You know you want to.
Overview: Accused of being a tag-along for the Halo 3 beta, Crackdown is at first glance a Grand Theft Auto clone. It has strikingly similar gameplay (open-ended sandbox-style) and even gets as close as a lack of a soundtrack except when in a vehicle. Reviewers all over the interwebs are saying it stands on its own, and DESTRUCTOID's own Rob Summa can't stop gushing about it. Personally I was never a fan of the GTA series. I appreciated the concept and respected it for that it brought to the genre, but it just bored me. I love a good story, and I love deep immersive gameplay. Crackdown seems like a game I would pick up, play for 15 minutes, and fall asleep bored. This actually ends up not being the case. I just can't put it down.
The storyline is simple: there really is none. You are a super agent sent on a mission to get rid of the three different gangs in Pacific City. After that, there is little in the way of fleshing out what you would call a plot or a narrative. Is this a good or a bad thing? How's the replay value? Multiplayer? Hit the jump for a full review.
This week I was on DESTRUCTOID's PODTOID again! They SAY the quality sucked, but I think it's pretty passable. Tune in to hear the origins of my lame nickname and to hear some cusses.
This week I was a guest on the esteemed podcast PODTOID, with the excellent cock-loving and poo-announcing editors of DESTRUCTOID. Poo humor aside, I had a great time. Mosey on over to the house where robots live and give it a good download. It will make your Friday bearable.

After last week's craziness comes this week's calm. This week, The Geek, Frodo and White Mage welcome guest panelist Fronz from Destructoid.com.The Geek is fresh off of a PAX binge and tells us all about it, from the Minibosses to throwing a dart at Tycho's baby's head. Fun times, man. Fun times. Other things were also discussed! Such as...
