We're a geek culture podcast and blog covering video games, music, food and more. We are the kinds of people who evangelize whatever we are into - it could be anything - but it's usually pretty geeky. We're casual, conversational, NSFW and hopefully interesting. We hope you enjoy it.

Podcast for 11.10.08 | Sea Change

seachange.jpg

Things get a wee bit political this week as Jinny, Ross, Ryan and I discuss last week's events through the geek lens. We discuss Obama's wired presidency and the brilliance of Change.gov, the release of Gears of War 2 and the games' resemblance to a The Legend of Zelda and the true meaning of game industry secrets. We then discuss Wii Music from an educator's perspective, Dance Dance Revolution The Musical, a Watchmen video game and we dip into the mailbag. Show notes after the jump!

As of today, the change.gov homepage had 19 errors! Couple silly little things. The code is pretty hawt though.

Fixed! thanks for the heads-up, Lior. Also, sorry we didn't get to your mailbag this week. I totally forgot! I am a bad person.

I am confirming the notion that Chris is a bad person. ;)

Cool show - I actually had no idea about Obama's internet campaign. My excuse is I'm in Australia, though I am an avid follower of Obama. Anyway, your answer to my email about recyling was amusing even if I didn't really agree with you. One thing I have to point out though - you missed an important point: it takes energy and resources to cut trees and produce paper in the first place. Renewable resource trees may be, but paper still has to be made. It would be incredibly interesting to see an indepth comparison between the expenditure and work that goes on in both processes. But another thing to consider is that they're not just trees - but a habitat for all kinds of animals. So even if recylcing was as resource consuming as creating new paper, it still has the upper hand of making it so that less forests need be distrubed.

Also, one other thing about the discussion on Wii Music and such. I find that Rock Band has actually been incredibly useful as a learning tool to some degree. I have a greater awareness of the individual contributions of each instrument to music - and I have a much better sense of rhythm. I started on easy and medium on drums - but now I have a much better grasp on co-ordinating my limbs and keeping time. Additionally, when I picked up playing bass guitar I found it was really handy to upstrum songs in Rock Band to get used to playing like that and keeping a good rhythm.

Ok done.

It's interesting to note the differing accents on the show. Linguistics shows up as one of my minors and I took a fascinating course called "Varieties of English", which went through all dialects of North American English.

PNW'ers sound Canadian to me, whereas they always make fun of my A's (being from Chicago).

Ask Ryan to say "roof" or "jog" on the next podcast he frequents. He doesn't match the Chicago accent at all, because his family hails from Boston.

What say you?!
