We're a geek culture podcast and blog covering video games, music, food and more. We are the kinds of people who evangelize whatever we are into - it could be anything - but it's usually pretty geeky.

Podcast for 06.16.08 | Questionable Maturity

    questionablematurity.jpg

This week, resident geeks Chris, Jinny, Qais and Ross manage to go a full thirty minutes without saying the word "ass monster", proving that geeks really are the bastions of intelligence and maturity they claim to be. Of course this is in reference to the Spore Creature Creator being released this week, allowing anyone to create any malformed genital-monster their heart desires. The geeks talk about M. Night Shyamalan's new movie The Happening and how it's might be intelligent design propaganda, the new Ghostbusters video game and how it might not suck, how Google might be making us stupid, why the $100 laptop project might just be stupid (according to some people), hard-hitting food issues such as a discussion as to why Ted Allen's new food show is going to be awesome and a dip into the mailbag. That's right, YOUR barely legible letters read on air! Show notes after the jumpitty jump.

Remember, kids! This podcast is not really work safe! Only listen with headphones or around questionable company!

The love for Ted Allen made me especially pleased - the discussion of asshole monsters made me cringe, just a little bit. A very good podcast all around!

If you watch expelled you'll see that it's not about trying to prove evolution wrong :-P

Yeah, I'm sure that's not their direct goal. Their goal is just to get intelligent design in the schools, yeah? That's pretty much bullshit. That's like saying ancient polytheistic gods deserve a fair shake, too. Won't anyone think of Thor?

Actually, no. The movie's goal is to show people who have been fired/kicked out of their academic jobs in society for merely suggesting the possibility of intelligent design in their papers, books, etc. It's not about "getting intelligent design in the schools".

This is the first time I've listened to this podcast, and I respect you guys and what you do-- I thought it was quite funny. I'm not trying to flame, but just letting you know what expelled actually about. :)

I used to be a small-town reporter, and at the start of this one committee's meetings they had a little prayer-thing where the guy said, "Heavenly Father..." and it always made me think of Odin...

Anyway, fun podcast! I wish Qais had agreed to post his Spore creations on here.

Sorry, Jake. I think that anyone in a position of authority whose job it is to inform shouldn't even consider intelligent design an option. They SHOULD be fired and kicked out of their academic jobs because an attitude like that is the antithesis of academic. Intelligent design does not advance knowledge. It throws its hands in the air and says "eh". It is NON SCIENCE.

Hey Chris, thanks for your reply. I don't want to get into whether I disagree with that or not. I'm merely trying to correct you guys about what expelled is about, in that it's not about getting ID in the schools. Anyways, keep up the great work, and I'll be sure to listen to your next podcast :-)

OK, I have to know what comic the podcast image is paying homage to. I know it - but I just can't remember what. I'm thinking it might be a comic by Jhonen Vasquez...but I'm not sure. Too much Dr. Horrible clouding my brain...with awesome...
