Pinkapalooza: The Recapening
![]()
Last night was the first, of what will hopefully be many, Pinkapalooza; an event put together by the awesome folks at Pink Godzilla as a charity benefit for Child's Play. The event kicked off with several rounds of Rock Band, which The Pink Godzillas rapidly dominated with a score of 2 million and then some. Although admittedly they did employ a secret weapon, of which ample use was made. Never before have I seen a man employ both cowbell AND pelvic thrusting with such skill. I'm told that with therapy and the right combination of psychoactive medications the nightmares will eventually end.
Later, local artist Leeni graced the stage for some sweet, sweet 8 bit beats and had the dance floor packed throughout her set. We Geeks, escaping to a higher vantage point (which smelled ever so slightly of old cheddar and an unwashed Russian sauna) to catch the action were greeted with a diminutive Leeni working feverishly over microphone, mixer, and best of all Gameboy, to the delight of a sea of bouncing bodies. This was the kind of party socially awkward gamers dreamed of throughout high school.
Following Leeni's performance the Godzilla crew auctioned off games and Jones Soda Christmas packs, eliciting cringes from Chris as he fought flashbacks of drinking the Thanksgiving pack (I'm told it's quite bad), in between more rounds of Rock Band. A few stuffed Pink Godzillas were thrown into the crowd and the ensuing scuffles will be the stuff of legend for years to come. My trusty shank and withering glance scored me an adorable (if slightly bloodstained) Godzilla which is just as effective at dispelling visions of thrusted crotch and cowbell as it looks.
The highlight of the evening was definitely the multitude of "bands" taking the stage. Nerds from all walks of life sang, strummed, and drummed their hearts out, looking for all the world like a parade of determined yet hilariously ridiculous rock stars; all of whom were having a blast. Sadly, the Geeks weren't able to join our cohorts on stage, the list of bands queued to play spanning several pages before we even arrived.
All in all fun was had in spades. Amazing prizes were awarded, everyone was treated to the dulcet tones of Penny Arcade's Tycho, Leeni rocked the house 8-bit style, and most importantly a whole mess of money was donated to a well deserving charity. I eagerly anticipate the growth of Pinkapalooza and can't wait for next year.
