We're a geek culture podcast and blog covering video games, music, food and more. We are the kinds of people who evangelize whatever we are into - it could be anything - but it's usually pretty geeky.

Podcast for 11-19-07 | Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero

On this week's Weekly Geek podcast, Grant, Colette, Qais and Chris discuss whether or not Rock Band and Guitar Hero III are actually in competition with each other, gush about Mario Galaxy, lament the lameness of licensed games, discuss the intricacies of installing a George Foreman grill on your Wii, talk about how the Dragonball movie may not actually suck, how Cloverfield may actually suck, and Chris professes his undying love for Zooey Deschanel (Zooey, if you are reading this, call me).

Regardless of whether you think a spoiler is significant or not, some people don't like to have plot points revealed, at least not without some warning so that skipping ahead is an option. Blurting out that spoiler for Assassin's Creed was unprofessional and a disservice to your listeners. Sure, it's not a BioShock-esque reveal, but the spoiled plot moment is still a decent point in the Assassin's Creed story. You argued that it was spoiled in the game's opening anyway, but that's if players payed attention to the right things. The same could be said for many other games, BioShock included. With hindsight, of course the clues make sense. But some people don't even seek those clues out because they just want to experience the story, so when a twist is thrown their way, that experience is enhanced, even if just a little.

By dropping spoilers, you reduce the potential enjoyment of a game by some amount for those who haven't already discovered that point in the story. Even if that amount is a tiny bit, why would you want to risk reducing any enjoyment at all from your listeners?

The level of pretentiousness in the podcast has been a bit too heavy for me recently, but the spoilers just added that last straw. There is now one less subscriber to The Weekly Geek.

Dude, it wasn't a spoiler. I am sorry you were offended, but it just plain wasn't a spoiler. It was a marketing ploy by Ubisoft.

Hey, can you add the Rock Band youtube video you mentioned on the podcast to your shownotes? Cheers.
