Link To The Past Hits Wii Shop

lttp.jpgThat's right, folks, Nintendo has given us ONE game this week for their weekly (or Wii-kly as Nintendo is cleverly putting it) Virtual Console update - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

This is interesting, as Nintendo released this a couple years back for the Game Boy Advance (along with Four Swords, the tagged on multiplayer game). We speculated that Nintendo wouldn't release games they had released recently as GBA remakes, but apparently they really want you to buy their games at least 5 times until they are finished feasting on your hard earned rupees. Full press release after the jump.

Wii-kly Update: Classic Zelda Game Announced for Wii Shop Channel

Today Nintendo adds one of the most popular games in its library of
classics to the Wii(TM) video game system's Wii Shop Channel. The Legend of
Zelda(TM): A Link to the Past(TM) goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo
adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed
Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points
can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Super NES(R), 1 player, 800 Wii
Points): Return to an age of magic and heroes. When an evil magician named
Agahnim begins kidnapping young maidens in Hyrule in a quest to break the
imprisoning seal on Ganon, a young boy named Link is called upon to stop him.
Link must venture into twisting mazes, dungeons, palaces and shadowy forests
as he searches for the maidens and Princess Zelda. Traversing both Light and
Dark Worlds, he must navigate eight dark dungeons, fighting evil enemies and
huge bosses. Help our hero prevent Ganon and Agahnim from shattering Hyrule
    forever.

I am so tempted to get this just for the convinience of having it on the Wii.

    So tempted.

I bought this the second I got home from work. I was very excited to see one of my favorite games of all time make it to the VC.

Not all of us had GBA's and I've long since lost (or my Dad sold) my SNES cart, so it was a pleasant surprise to be able to buy this title again.

I haven't played this in years and it's just as great as I remembered it.

Link to the past is my absolute favorite Zelda game.

This is probably one of the only games that I will buy on the virtual console when I get my wii (god that sounds so wrong).

Gotta agree with Crim. The Zelda franchise is gonna have a hard time topping Link to the Past. (Although, I still haven't played Windwaker). But none of the others give me the same glorious feeling.
