We're a geek culture podcast and blog covering video games, music, food and more. We are the kinds of people who evangelize whatever we are into - it could be anything - but it's usually pretty geeky. We're casual, conversational, NSFW and hopefully interesting. We hope you enjoy it.

World of Warcraft Raiding with SRA3

BekkaArmor.jpgEvery Monday from 6-10pm I raid the 40-player dungeon Molten Core with Silvermoon Raiding Alliance 3. On Thursdays from 6-10pm we fight Onyxia, a giant dragon, and then fight some more in Molten Core. Raiding has added a whole new aspect to the game for me. When my main goal was getting my Paladin, Bekka, to level 60, I avoided grouping as much as possible because I hated relying on others in order to progress. Then, I discovered the only way I would be able to get the Lawbringer armor set was to join a raiding guild or alliance. Luckily, I heard that SRA3 was recruiting. I did a Google search to find out who they were, asked The Geek if he would mind me spending eight hours a week ignoring him, and applied. It has been a very educational and entertaining experience. In the four months since I joined, I have already received five pieces of my armor and three other items.

As I mentioned in our latest podcast, I have spent most of my free time over the last two weeks acquiring items to increase my fire resistance in order to meet my 200 fire resistance deadline for the 18th. This was honestly the only time that WoW has felt more like work and less like fun in the almost 3 years I have been playing. And, it was for a very good reason. The final boss in Molten Core is a giant, flaming, twisty, elemental called Ragnaros and he and his sons do ungodly amounts of fire damage to anyone brave enough to face him. The leadership of SRA3 decided that Monday, the 18th, would be our first serious attempt at defeating Rag. We went in, practiced where everyone would stand, and KILLED HIM ON OUR FIRST ATTEMPT! In fact, we finished more than 30 minutes early! I screamed and jumped up and down in my seat. :D

Thursday was a big night as well. We killed Onyxia in record time on our first try. That left us with enough time to kill 6 bosses in Molten Core. It was the most we have ever accomplished on a Thursday. All in all, it was a very good week for raiding.

Sounds like it's worth it for you, but how is it worthwhile to other people? Sounds like work to me...

With such a great group of people, the actual raiding doesn't feel like work. I just hang out with a bunch of friends twice a week. :) If they were all jerks I soooo wouldn't be doing it.

I think Bekka has been a big help to us all. I am glad she did not feel like it was too much work lol.

All the pali's and all the players that are in SRA have been a big help. Some work is required, but with the right group - this group - it is worthwhile. PHAT LOOTZ is rewarding. Also figuring out strats, executing the strat and taking down bosses is fun to ... there are no lightweights here.
