We're a geek culture podcast and blog covering video games, music, food and more. We are the kinds of people who evangelize whatever we are into - it could be anything - but it's usually pretty geeky. We're casual, conversational, NSFW and hopefully interesting. We hope you enjoy it.

    Ol' Unreliable

It's that time of the week again! Oh, wait, what's that? There was no Weekly Geek update? Yeahhhh... see about that. We had some technical difficulties. We think that terrorists were probably trying to take us down (we are a threat to them, you see) and the interweb crashed. Yeah! The whole internet just crashed and we weren't able to record a show at the proper time. Crazy huh? Well it's the truth.

We will be back sometime later this week. In the meantime, might I recommend checking out some of our archived shows? Both the iTunes feed and the other feed should have some of our old interviews, such as the one with Mark Hamill and the one with Maurice LaMarche. They are fun times. Go to it! Or don't.

Frodo, did you break it again? How many times do I have to tell you, I'm tired of casting Mending.

Now... on a side note, have you tried to do other programs to do the recording? I'm not a master at this whole podcasting thing, I don't know what type of programs work. It just seems like Skype has been giving you lots of problems.

So, yeah... you convinced your neighbor to download your podcast Frodo. Way to freakin' go! That's what you apparently have to do get another subscriber. I got the latest one, and the Brendan Small one. Umm... yeah...

Yeah you know, we have tried a multitude of programs to record... Gizmo, iChat, Google Talk, just recording on each separate computer and mashing it all together... but since we all live in different cities, we need to be able to sort of record a teleconference. Skype has the best sound quality for that. For some odd reason most of the voice chat programs that we found (including skype) don't have a record feature, and the only program that I have found on the mac that can record skype calls at the same time as the input from my mic is audio hijack pro. It's a pretty arcane process right now, hopefully once skype releases their new version maybe stuff will be different? Who knows.

For clarification, though, this week wasn't a skype issue. We started recording and then the geek and I dropped at the same time. We are on different sides of the state, but our internet connections went down at the same time, and The Geek's didn't come back up. And I am moving! So we didn't have time. Again, apologies. We pospone the show far too much!

Well I understand with the whole voice recording thing. the few out there I've noticed haven't had a recording feature. Have you guys checked out Vent? (Ya know, that popular voice chat thing for WoW?) I don't know if that has recording on it or not, I just know a lot of people use it.

And no big deal with the whole losing an episode thing, well, at least to me. I'm just trying to help and figured you need a bit of razzing while I'm doing it. Any crude remarks made by me are made with the best intent and are purely sarcastic.

Yeah, Ventrilo and Teamspeak have absolutely dismal sound quality. That, and you would need to set up a server, blah blah blah. It's really curious why someone hasn't come up with an easy podcasting program yet. Maybe some advantageous Weekly Geek listener with coding skills might whip one up. A BOY CAN DREAM.

It WAS the wierdest thing! We literally lost our internet connections at the exact same time. The Geek and I were still able to talk for a short while, we figure we beat the disconnect a bit being in the same house, but nothing else internetwise would work. And, while Frodo was able to connect again in after 5 mins ours just went BLAHHH...

Thats so wierd that all of your internet went down all at the same time. Thats just like a nightmare you can't wake up from as a net junkie.

I wish I could help you out with a good recording program, I'll look around online, but I have absolutly no coding skills...
